When we watched, “How the Universe Works,” a Discovery DVD, they said that when a giant star begins making iron at its core, it will explode within seconds. The production of iron caused the death of the star. Since then I’ve read other sources that say the star explodes and then iron is formed. It doesn’t matter to me which happened first. What matters is that the production of iron atoms and the explosion of a star happen almost simultaneously. That means every time I hold a cast iron pot, I am holding the death of a giant star.
